Connecting City Kids to Nature

“I can’t even tell you how happy it makes me to see him in gardening gloves.”

“I know it goes against the whole vibe but I kind of want you to take HS corporate or at least bring it to the whole city.”

“I really do love what you're doing. And I'm glad that my little man also enjoys it. Which says a whole lot.”

“At the P&T conference today, [my daughter] shared that Honeysuckle Society is her most favorite “activity” and she had listed it as her ‘culture’”.

Gardening

The children will learn to listen to what the garden needs and take care of it. This promotes a sense of responsibility for the child and a connection to nature. In addition we will engage in activities such as: adopting one of the nine trees on campus, adopting a planter in our fourth street courtyard, labelling plants, and more.

Handcrafts

In addition to tending the garden, children will engage in seasonal monthly crafts with natural materials. This promotes pattern recognition, hand-eye coordination, patience, emotional regulation, and encourages a connection with nature. Crafts this session may include: finger knitting, fairy houses, earth paints, tree rubbings, nature weavings, pumpkin paintings and more.

Seasonal themes

Each seasonal session is divided into themes: Earth, Air and Water. For example, Fall Season’s theme is Earth so we will focus on Dirt, Trees, Animals & Bugs, and Ecosystems. We will also have ongoing projects throughout the year such as an Herbarium, Nature Journals and a Mosaic using recycled bottle caps.
